Kabul, Afghanistan:  During this week fifteen drug traffickers had their convictions upheld for trafficking and possessing narcotics by the Appeal Court of the Central Narcotics Tribunal:

Two drug traffickers from Helmand province were arrested for trafficking 530 kgs of opium. After the trial they were each convicted and sentenced to 17 years imprisonment and fined one million five hundred and fifty thousand Afghanis. They were arrested with the drugs by Counter Narcotics Special Forces.

A drug trafficker from Paktiya province was arrested for possessing 250 kgs of hashish by Pakitiya province security and CNPA forces. His conviction and sentence of 10 years imprisonment and a fine of one million Afghanis was upheld by the Appeal Court.

Kabul, Afghanistan:  Twenty seven drug traffickers had their convictions upheld for trafficking and possessing narcotics by the Appeal Court of the Central Narcotics Tribunal:

9 members of a drug smuggling ring who were arrested from different parts of Afghanistan had their conviction upheld by the CJTF Appeal Court. The convicted people included a convicted kidnapper, a former officer from Ministry of Defense, a policeman from the ANP, an officer from the NDS, and the head of Jabrul Saraj Electricity Factory. They were arrested for trafficking 25 Kgs of heroin and they were each sentenced to 17 years imprisonment and fined 1 million and ten thousand Afghanis.

Three drug traffickers from Badghis province were arrested for trafficking 1710 kgs of opium by Badghis province security forces. Their conviction and sentence of 16 years imprisonment was upheld by the Appeal court.

Kabul, Afghanistan:  Twelve drug traffickers have been convicted for trafficking and possessing narcotics by the Appeal Court of Criminal Justice Task Force:

Seven drug traffickers from Herat province were arrested for trafficking 228.300 kgs of opium. They were each convicted and sentenced to 17 years imprisonment and fined one million five hundred and ten thousand Afghanis.  They were arrested in a joint operation of counter narcotics police of Afghanistan and Border Police officers on July 3 2008.


A drug trafficker from Nangarhar province was arrested by Samarkhail checkpoint police officers while he was trying to smuggle 29.250 kgs of opium on July 1 2008. Later on he was convicted and sentenced to 15 years imprisonment and fined 700,000 Afghanis by CJTF Appeal Court.

Kabul, Afghanistan:  Fourteen drug traffickers have been convicted for trafficking and possessing narcotics by the Primary Court of Criminal Justice Task Force:

Three drug traffickers from Helmand province were convicted after trial of trafficking 2280 kgs of opium on 19 August 2008. They were each sentenced to 17 years imprisonment and fined one million and five hundred and ten thousand Afghanis.

Three drug traffickers from Herat province were arrested for possessing more than 288 kgs of opium in Gulran district of Herat province. They were each sentenced to 16 years imprisonment and fined one million five hundred and ten thousand Afghanis. They were arrested by Herat province counter narcotics police on 3 July 2008 while they were trying to traffic the drugs to Iran.
