WHAT IS THE CJTF?

The CJTF is dedicated to bringing to justice, drug traffickers and others who violate Afghanistan’s counter-narcotics law.

The CJTF is part of the Afghan government’s wider strategy to crack down on the evils of the criminal drug trade.

The CJTF is helping Afghanistan fulfill its international commitments – the Government has signed the UN Convention against the illegal trafficking of illicit drugs as well as the UN convention against corruption.

The CJTF and international donors have a major programme in place for fast-track capacity building, to strengthen a counter narcotics criminal justice system

OUR STRATEGY

Objective one: To improve the professionalism and capacity of the CJTF as it investigates and prosecutes drug traffickers from all around the country.

Objective two: To improve coordination between related institutions, in the centre and provinces, and so create a coherent counter narcotics law enforcement and criminal justice system.

Objective three: To bring down the drug trafficking networks operating in Afghanistan through the rigorous and fair application of the rule of law.

CJTF VALUES

To ensure standards and professionalism are maintained during investigations, based on good ethical practices. To ensure proceedings are transparent and conform to due process and the rights of suspects are respected, including the right to defence representation and the right to appeal.

Welcome to the CJTF Website

A key component of the Government of Afghanistan's National Drug Control Strategy is to target drug trafficking networks. To this end, the Government of Afghanistan set up the Criminal Justice Task Force (CJTF) in May 2005 with the objective of prosecuting serious drug trafficking offences across the country.
