A key component of the Government of Afghanistan's National Drug Control Strategy is to target drug trafficking networks. To this end, the Government of Afghanistan set up the Criminal Justice Task Force (CJTF) in May 2005 with the objective of prosecuting serious drug trafficking offences across the country.

CJTF Key convictions:

The CJTF’s Chief Prosecutor has stated that five senior level drug traffickers had their convictions confirmed by the Supreme Court during this period, representing a significant success in the battle to bring down Afghanistan’s drug networks.
